Welcome to the Network Leaders' PBwiki!

(archived website)

If you are looking for information from the June 2008 Network Leaders planning meeting click here: http://networkleader.pbwiki.com/Resources%20from%20Network%20Leader%20June%20Meeting.  I am working on getting our site updated but this is the quickest way to access materials from our group morning sessions.

A wiki is a new technology which allows the user to build, very quickly and easily, an interactive website where any visitor can participate by adding content. Educators are using this technology to create classroom pages, course syllabi, and as a means of building collaborative projects which can be communicated to the world through the web. For a fuller definition, click here.

Technologies for the 21st Century -

Harnessing Technology to Support Student Writing and Responding to Informational Texts

I. Technology which creates an extended audience outside the walls of the classroom:

  1. Photostory: This free and easy tool allows students to create digital stories as a means of presenting what they know as they respond to informational texts. The global warming example used in Monday's demonstration reveals how simple this technology is and yet how powerful it is, since it gives students a means to apply knowledge through a visual and auditory medium. Photostory support from Steve Webster at South Burlington Schools.
  2. Filamentality: Free Pathfinder Website creator sponsored by AT&T which allows students and teachers to create annotated resource lists and simple webquests for free. The resource students create is automatically published to the web and kept for at least a year.
  3. Wikis!!! The quickest and easiest way to collaboratively create.
  4. Picasa.com allows you to post photos on-line, and for viewers to download the photos, or watch the photos as a slideshow or album.

II. Differentiation - Finding electronic resources to help you differentiate instruction using Vermont Online Library (VOL) and other on-line resources.

III. Writing Process Aides-

  1. Inserting Comments Using Microsoft Word
  2. Interactive Essay Maps

IV. Network Leader Personal Pages

V.  Book Reviews - use this page to reflect on, recommend, review, or rant about your most recent reads

Okay, I am about to get my feet wet, put my money where my mouth is, jump on the bandwagon . . . I guess I am just an old dog learning new tricks.
Seriously, I hope using this wiki will enhance the network leaders' dialogue as we all go forward with planning the spring meetings!

Hello out there, Leaders! When we go on the wiki page, let's use this comment page to keep track of changes or reactions to what is on a particular page. You can also send info to me and I will put it on the appropriate page so others can view it.
Susan, did you take a look?

Leaders:
Check out the 7-8 writing resources for a rubric for informational text understanding, placed by Maggie Eaton.

I think that this is a great idea. I check it daily but have to admit that I have felt intimidated about adding info. I have taken a deep breath and will give it a go!:)

Lisa and others, I am glad to see comments by leaders who have visited this wiki. I will be glad to enter anything, or create links to info you have placed on the wiki. I check it several times a day.

Check out the new text that Lindy and I think will work better for a free-write. It is on the General Information for Planning: the NOTE under #3.

I really think it's an excellent article. I think it is a scary time for lots of teachers. The kids are there, and we need to go there. For lots of teachers, they just need the time to get comfortable with these new tools. There is a wide range of resources out there in schools too. See everyone soon!

This is a great article. I finished reading A Whole New Mind, and then dug out my old copy of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.
I decided to add a page showing what I'm doing on Ghana, but it is really a rough draft, and not all of my students have completed a piece of writing.

Carla (and others), Do not worry if pieces aren't finished; we have another month before we need to get the packets to the copy center. And drafts are informative to show, as well!

Thanks for a great day last week. (Except the weather!)I am trying to find the time to put all my info onto this site. Marty or Lindy, Thanks so much for setting a page up for me. Now I will cross my fingers and hopefully insert my plans correctly. I am excited about the wonderful ideas that have been created and can't wait to share them with colleagues!
